The knowledge of single jersey

Single jersey is a thin knitted fabric that is commonly used for close fitting clothing due to its strong moisture absorption. Generally, fine or medium pure cotton or blended yarn is used to weave single-sided or double-sided fabrics on warp or weft knitting machines using flat needles, looping, ribbed, jacquard, and other fabrics, and then dyed, printed, and finished before being sewn into various styles of sweaters and vests.

The processing method of single jersey:

There are two methods for bleaching and dyeing single jersey: one is fine bleaching, where the fabric is boiled, alkali shrunk, and then bleached or dyed to make it tight, smooth, and with a low shrinkage rate. Another method is bleaching, where the fabric is boiled and then bleached or dyed to make it soft and elastic.

The characteristics of single jersey:

Flat knitted fabric used for making underwear. The weight per square meter is generally 80g/cm to 120g/cm, with a smooth surface, clear patterns, fine texture, and a smooth feel. The fabric has good extensibility in both vertical and horizontal directions, and the extensibility in the horizontal direction is greater than that in the vertical direction. Moisture absorption and breathability are good, but there is detachment and curling, and sometimes there may be coil skewness.

The classification of single jersey:

The common single jersey includes bleached single jersey, extra white single jersey, fine bleached single jersey, and mercerized single jersey. According to the different post-treatment processes of dyeing and finishing, there are plain single jersey, printed single jersey, and striped single jersey. According to the different raw materials used, there are blended single jersey, silk single jersey, acrylic single jersey, polyester single jersey, ramie single jersey, etc.
